Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the United States. She has worked as media critic since. Feminist Frequency is a channel that hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that examines female representations in narratives from popular culture. Committed to destroying the stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she has also been working on issues related the targeted harassment women and different classes of individuals online. With a master's in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as at the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. As a university student she became interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. The ambitious lady planned to start a web-based series on gender representation in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. Her determination was not slowed from the attack, and in fact it only reinforced her determination to be feminist and media critic. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women in popular culture narratives.
